This is the first year I have ever made any "cycling goals", since I just started to really get into this biking thing in 2007. I didn't realize that a lot of bike folks set yearly mileage goals until the past couple of week, when people were posting theirs over on Bike Forums. I have no idea of what I'm capable of as far as yearly mileage, so I'm just going to post the list of goals that I'm had in my head for the past month of so.
First, I need to get a new road bike. I spent most of last year riding my Giant Rainier Mountain Bike on pavement, so it's time to get a real road bike. The cool thing is that the first time I took test ride on a road bike I really felt like I was flying, so I'm really looking forward to a whole season on one.
The one I sort of have my heart set on is an Orbea Onix TDF. I've also been looking at the Scott CR1's and a couple different Felt bikes. I sort of wanted to stay away form anything common like Trek or Giant and the Orbea has that European/basque mystique. besides, I rode one and it really felt good & Comfortable.
So some Riding goals:
Ride Lookout Mountain by may 15th.
Do a metric century by Mid-May.
Do My First Century Ride at the Elephant Rock Cycling Festival on June 1st.
Climb Vail or Independence pass by end of summer.
Bike Commute to work 2-3 times a week (in Season)
I think all of these are very doable. I got a lot of self confidence last year after I easily made it over Dinosaur ridge and through Red Rocks, after fearing that ride for months. I was also knocking out 35mile rides on a mountain bike on a regular basis, so who knows what I'll be capable of on a road bike.
